There’s plenty of things to see and do in Singapore after dark. But while the Lion City is renowned for its flourishing cocktail culture, there’s so much more to its nightlife than trendy bars – as Singapore Airlines flight stewardess Madelene Khaw can attest.
“Singapore’s diverse nightlife caters to a wide range of interests and preferences, ensuring there’s always something for everyone to enjoy after hours,” says Madelene, who has been flying with the airline for seven years. “I also love Singapore for its cleanliness and safety. I can always explore the city with peace of mind, no matter the time of day.”
Follow Madelene as she embarks on an exhilarating night adventure across Singapore.
Spot marine life at the beach
Singapore’s waters are home to a plethora of marine life. Some of these can be glimpsed during an intertidal walk at Changi Beach (bookable through Pelago), where long stretches of sand are exposed at low tide. These excursions take place at various times of the day, but Madelene recommends signing up for an evening session for an unforgettable experience. Here, you’ll don a special UV head torch and explore tidal pools to seek out a colourful array of critters. “What an opportunity it is to explore the rich marine biodiversity of Changi Beach! It’s amazing how you can find crabs, shellfish, snails and more along the shoreline during low tide,” she marvels.
Explore the city on wheels
Looking to go off the beaten path in Singapore? Sign up for the Secrets of Singapore Kick Scooter Tour (bookable through Pelago), where you’ll discover the city’s lesser-known gems on three wheels. During the excursion, expert guides will regale you with intriguing tales about Singapore’s past as you glide along the waterfront and through hidden alleys after dark.
Alternatively, Madelene recommends renting a bike and cycling from East Coast Park to Marina Bay Sands. “It’s a scenic and enjoyable ride that takes you along the coast and through Singapore’s urban landscape,” she says.
Get your adrenaline pumping
With numerous hairpin turns and steep slopes, Skyline Luge Singapore (bookable through Pelago) offers a high-octane racing experience – and it’s doubly fun at night, where you can hurtle along an illuminated track under a kaleidoscope of lights. “The Night Luge is certainly an adrenaline-pumping ride. Plus, you can enjoy panoramic views of Sentosa Island as you zip around,” Madelene shares.
Indulge in retail therapy
Looking to enjoy a spot of shopping? Madelene suggests making a beeline for Haji Lane, a bustling street in the Kampong Glam neighbourhood. “Haji Lane is well known for its vintage stores, colourful murals and hip cafes. It’s a great place for shopping,” Madelene notes.
End your evening at one of the restaurants or bars in the area, or head to Mustafa Centre in Little India, which is open until 2am daily. “This mall has everything! Whether you’re looking for electronics, clothing or groceries, this is definitely a place where you can find it all,” she says.
Tuck into local delights
As a food-loving nation, Singapore naturally has no shortage of supper spots ideal for satisfying those late-night cravings.
Madelene recommends East Coast Lagoon Food Village, a beachside hawker centre dishing up a wide array of street eats. “I love enjoying some satay (grilled meat skewers) al fresco while taking in the sea breeze and scenic views of the coastline,” she shares.
For the pitch-perfect ending to your Singapore night adventure, head to Timbre Signatures, a laid-back restaurant and bar housed in a colonial building. “I like coming here for live performances by local bands covering a wide range of genres,” Madelene says. “It’s a great place to unwind with friends over good music and drinks.”
