Nutmeg & Clove
Singapore’s cocktail stalwart serving inventive drinks and bar grub with a local twist
One of the island’s most decorated bars, Nutmeg & Clove is located in the historic Purvis Street, just downstairs from sister bar Last Word. It’s a refreshingly laidback spot for world-class cocktails conceptualised by head bartender Gavin Teravasan.
The inventive menu abound with Asian flavours; the tropical Yam Seng blends mezcal with lemongrass, pandan and taro. For something quintessentially Singaporean, try the savoury Don’t Chicken Out. Inspired by the classic Hainanese chicken rice, rum is shaken with sherry, cucumber, chilli, lime and a dash of MSG.
Peckish? Order the Suan Pan Zi. Head chef Bernstein Lim makes a moreish bar bite out of the traditional Hakka dish, stir frying handmade yam abacus seeds with wood ear, shiitake mushrooms and toasted buckwheat.
It’s worth dropping by during Social Hour, when the $16 cocktails are served with complimentary crispy chicken sandwiches.
