Temple hopping

Walk the pilgrim’s path through many routes

Buddhism has flourished in Hangzhou since the Eastern Jin dynasty (4th century CE), leaving a rich legacy of mountain temples.

Follow the ancient Tianzhu Pilgrim Path, once walked by Buddhist pilgrims for centuries, linking the upper, middle and lower Temples of Tianzhu through meandering gardens and bamboo forest.

The upper Faxi Temple (established 906–970 AD) is the largest; Fajing Temple (597 AD) was founded by an Indian monk Baozhang. Further south stands the Lower Tianzhu Temple of Fajing, the only nunnery in Hangzhou. All three temples are within walking distance and located near Linyin Temple.
