Brussels abounds in sublime Art Nouveau buildings – especially the Saint-Gilles quarter. To get to grips with the style, visit the house museum of architect Victor Horta, one of the founders of the movement, whose fingerprints are all over town. Built between 1898 and 1901, the museum contains four floors of architectural gymnastics, with original mosaics and wall decorations leaping out at every turn. Book your visit online in advance, and enjoy free entry on the first Sunday of the month.
