Omoide Yokocho
Thick crowds at intimate hole-in-wall bars and pubs
Colloquially known as “Piss Alley”, Omoide Yokocho is the epitome of Tokyo’s yokocho (alleyway) drinking culture. Once a notorious haunt for Shinjuku’s most belligerent drunks, the cramped alley has turned its reputation around thanks to the posh and eccentric watering holes that have set up shop in its nooks. Here, you’ll find some of the most intimate and unique venues for a pint, a cocktail or a quick yakitori (grilled chicken skewer) snack; this includes Asadachi, which offers up exotic eats like a frog’s beating heart.
