Artistic and avant-garde, every inch of this Bill Bensley-designed resort a mere skip away from Phuket International Airport pays homage to the island’s heritage in the most joyful of ways.

Repurposed machine parts from Phuket’s tin mining days now make for glorious lobby light installations and bespoke cutlery and furniture with a steampunk touch. Yet these flourishes remain as tasteful as they are playful.

Every turn in the hotel’s labyrinthine grounds reveals a new surprise, making exploring it a joyous adventure. With these sui generis touches, three outdoor pools and a slew of strong dining concepts, it’s no wonder that The Slate is a favourite among children and the young-at-heart.

There’s more than enough to occupy you in the boutique resort, but if the beach beckons – you’re in Phuket, after all – then the low-key Nai Yang beach a short walk away will satisfy.
