Toufuya Ukai

Tucked amid a copse of trees at the foot of the iconic Tokyo Tower is Ukai, a lavish kaiseki (traditional multi-course meal) eatery housed within an Edo-style wooden cottage and specialising in tofu dishes. Ukai celebrates the vegetarian inclinations of the Buddhist monks of old, with dish after delicious dish of carefully prepared and gorgeously plated tofu. It’s the sheer range of textures and flavours on display that makes Ukai stand out, with tofu being transformed as if by alchemy to take on a dizzying array of forms.
