Miley Cyrus rebuffs family feud rumours

When you’re a Grammy-winning superstar, fans scrutinise your every move — and even your family members’. Sharp-eyed fans noticed in early May this year that Tish Cyrus-Purcell, Miley’s mum, had unfollowed her. Rumours of their feud began spreading, which is unsurprising considering the mess that is the recent Cyrus family dynamics. Tish had, famously and scandalously, married Dominic Purcell (of Prison Break fame), who had previously dated her other daughter, Noah Cyrus.

But good ol’ Miley, now mature and focused and thriving, sets the record straight. “My mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us. She’s my best friend. Like a lot of [mums], she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental, and uninteresting.” How convenient! Miley also clarifies about her alleged tiff with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus: “My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built, and time has done a lot of healing.”

Pope Leo XIV watched Conclave before cardinals voted him as the new Pope

Talk about life imitating art! In an interview with WMAQ-TV, John Prevost, older brother of Robert Prevost (aka the new Pope), recounted: “I said: ‘Are you ready for this? Did you watch the movie Conclave, so you know how to behave?’ And he had just finished watching the movie, so he knew how to behave!”

John explained in the interview that he wanted to make the Pope laugh to take his mind off the stress of the real conclave. He then added that while Pope Leo XIV was on a few shortlists, the latter had doubted his own chances since he was only made cardinal two years ago and is an American to boot.

And here’s another wholesome detail from John: his younger brother likes to play Wordle and Words With Friends to unwind. Watching Conclave, grappling with self-doubt, and playing nerdy mobile games? The Pope seems like a regular person, after all!

Golden Globes to add new Best Podcast category for its film and TV awards show

Come January next year, your fave true crime podcast might just win a Golden Globe. The Golden Globes recently acknowledged the immense popularity of the podcast medium and announced on their website that a new Best Podcast category will be added to the next awards show. While specific eligibility criteria for nominations have not been revealed yet at the time of writing, the Golden Globes explained that six nominees will be chosen from the “top 25 podcasts”.

It’s a smart move on the Globes’ part. Considering the flagging viewership of the event, presenting a new award category will no doubt bring more eyes to the annual awards show.

Ye* storms out of interview after Piers Morgan gets his follower count wrong

Talk about having an outsized ego. In this latest episode of Ye’s ever-bizarre antics, the rapper-turned-troll made it to just about three minutes before walking out of an interview with Piers Morgan.

Morgan’s Uncensored show started off with the host recounting a previous interview he had with Ye, where the latter went off on an anti-Semitic tirade before calling Morgan a ‘Karen’. This time, what triggered the rapper’s meltdown was Morgan’s passing comment that Ye had 32 million followers on X. (At the time of the interview, Ye had over 33 million followers.) Responding with a hurt reply that, “[Morgan’s] not going to take inches off my [male appendage], bro,” Ye then continued with strange statements, including calling himself a ‘gift’ and comparing himself to John Lennon and Michael Jackson. He then ended his brief airtime with “this is what you get for now; we can circle back when you can count”. As Morgan sputtered in disbelief, and the artist removed his earpiece before walking off-camera. What a diva!

*As he explained in the same interview: “I don’t use the term ‘West’, y’know, the whole drop-the-slave-name idea.”

Ryan Kiera Armstrong lands the lead role opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival

In every generation, there is a chosen one. And a new slayer has risen! Veteran slayer Gellar introduced 15-year-old actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong in a video interview that was posted on her Instagram account recently. “How do you feel about helping me save the world? Do you wanna be my chosen one? Will you stand by my side and save the world? Ryan, we all love you, and from the second we saw your tape, there was nobody else!”

A tearful Armstrong is visibly overcome with joy and excitedly says yes when Gellar asks outright if she agrees to take on the role. Gellar then asked Armstrong to get her father into the video interview so he could hear the good news firsthand.

There is no news yet on what the revival series will be about, but from Gellar’s proclamation of “Welcome to New Sunnydale” and the #newsunnydale hashtag that Gellar used, we suspect a rebuilding of the destroyed fictional town is in the works.

Blake Lively allegedly tried to coerce Taylor Swift into publicly supporting her

“‘Cause all of my enemies started out friends…” And the line from Swift’s 2019 song “The Archer” might prove to be true yet again. In the latest update to the case that keeps on giving, Justin Baldoni’s legal team has leaked legal documents to the Daily Mail that purportedly demonstrate the lengths that Lively had gone to secure Swift’s support. Allegedly, on top of demanding that Swift delete their text messages, Lively had even threatened the release of 10 years of private messages between them should Swift not release a public statement of support.

The judge presiding the lawsuit, Lewis J. Liman, has struck the letter and affidavit that Baldoni’s team sent stating that “the sole purpose of the Letter is to ‘promote public scandal’ by advancing inflammatory accusations, on information and belief, against Lively and her counsel”. Lively’s legal team has also released a statement denying the veracity of these documents to TMZ. Thus far, Swift has yet to wade into the mudslinging. Is it time for Bad Blood 2.0 yet?

Cannes tells celebs to cover up “for decency reasons” and ban large dress trains

Cannes Film Festival recently made a big announcement: “Nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival. Voluminous outfits, in particular those with a large train, that hinder the proper flow of traffic of guests and complicate seating in the theatre are not permitted.” Taken at face value, that is a reasonable request. But we’re talking about artists and thespians here whom they’re appealing to, so we’re bound to see some creative interpretations of it in the years to come.

Right on the heel of this announcement are the actors who immediately flout the rules. Heidi Klum swanned onto the red carpet in a spectacular Elie Saab gown on Cannes’ opening night, while showbiz newcomer Jonathan Guilherme (whose film I Only Rest in Storm premieres in Cannes in the Un Certain Regard category) appears in a very daring dress that shows off his derriere. Kristen Stewart also turned up in outfits that just skirt the no-nudity rule. Personally, we think this is all just a ploy to prevent Bianca Censori from turning up again.
