The Last of Us
If post-apocalyptic drama and fungal zombies are your jam, HBO’s The Last of Us is a must-watch. Based on the critically acclaimed Naughty Dog game, the series explores grief, love, empathy, and connection. It stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, respectively, a smuggler and a teenage girl navigating a brutal world ravaged by a deadly fungus that turns humans into terrifying, zombie-like monsters.
The emotional weight of the story, paired with intense action and character-driven drama, has made The Last of Us one of the most celebrated video game adaptations ever. Showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (who also co-directed the video game) stay true to the source material while crafting a show that stands tall on its own.
Season 2, based on the first part of The Last of Us Part II, raises the stakes. Ellie is now grappling with the lie Joel told her about what really happened at the Firefly hospital, leaving their surrogate father-daughter bond strained — and forever changed. As tensions simmer, a vengeful new character, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), enters with a personal mission that upends everything.
The Witcher
Toss a coin to Netflix’s The Witcher, where monster hunts, magic, and moral complexity collide. Based on the books that inspired the beloved CD PROJEKT RED games, the series follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a brooding, mutated monster-slayer for hire with a soft spot for chaos and destiny. (Cavill stepped away from the role after Season 3; Liam Hemsworth will take his place in the upcoming Season 4.)
Set in the fantastical Continent, the show balances brutal battles with political intrigue and a twisty timeline. As Geralt forges bonds with the fiery sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and the powerful young Princess Ciri (Freya Allan), the saga grows into a sweeping epic.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
Welcome to Night City — a neon-drenched dystopia where ambition is deadly, chrome is king, and humans are part machine. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Netflix’s high-octane anime from Studio Trigger, is a slick and stylish prequel to the Cyberpunk 2077 game.
The series follows David Martinez, a street kid turned mercenary after a tragic loss and a life-changing cyberware implant. Teaming up with a ragtag crew of outlaws, David dives into the criminal underworld of megacorporations, body mods, and betrayal. Packed with dazzling animation, killer action, and a gut-punch of a finale, Edgerunners explores the line between man and machine — and what makes us human — with electrifying cyberpunk coolness.
Fallout
What do you get when you cross 1950s retro-futurism with nuclear annihilation? Fallout, Prime Video’s bold new adaptation of the hit Bethesda game franchise. Equal parts absurd, emotional, and action-packed, the series plunges you into a post-apocalyptic wasteland full of ghouls, raiders, mutants, and power-armoured zealots.
Ella Purnell stars as Lucy, a naive Vault Dweller forced to brave the irradiated ruins of Los Angeles after emerging from the safety of Vault 33. Along the way, she encounters the enigmatic Brotherhood of Steel, uncovers family secrets, and tries to make sense of the chaos above ground. It’s weird, it’s wild, and it’s a blast — quite literally.
Arcane
Even if you’ve never touched League of Legends, Arcane, which is set in the game’s universe, is a masterclass in animated storytelling. This gorgeously rendered Netflix series dives deep into the fractured world of Piltover and Zaun — two cities divided by wealth, tech, and ideology.
At the heart of it are sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) and Jinx (Ella Purnell), torn apart by trauma and fate. As tensions rise between the haves and have-nots, power struggles and personal vendettas explode into full-blown war. With stunning visuals, emotionally rich characters, and a killer soundtrack, Arcane shattered expectations, won multiple Emmys, and became Netflix’s top-rated animated show for good reason. It’s an instant classic anyone can enjoy — no gaming XP required.
